A call for the position of Youth Worker within the Psychological Service Team on a definite basis is being issued.
Job Summary:
The Youth Worker will play a crucial role in offering vital support and guidance to young asylum seekers in Malta. This role involves establishing a safe and inclusive environment for youth, fostering their personal and social development, and assisting them in addressing the challenges associated with seeking asylum. The Youth Worker will collaborate closely with other agency staff and external partners to ensure the holistic well-being of the young individuals under their care.
Duties the Youth Worker, is responsible for are:
- Youth Engagement: Develop positive and trusting relationships with young asylum seekers, promoting open communication and mutual respect.
- Individualized Support: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the unique needs, strengths, and challenges of each young person, and create personalized support plans.
- Mental and Emotional Well-being: Provide empathetic support and coping mechanisms for youth grappling with trauma, isolation, and uncertainty.
- Life Skills Development: Design and lead workshops and activities that enhance essential life skills such as communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and time management.
- Community Outreach: Collaborate with community partners to organize outreach events, ensuring that youth are aware of available resources and opportunities.
- Community Integration: Organize cultural exchange activities, outings, and interactions with local Maltese youth to encourage community integration.
- Collaboration: Work closely with social workers, Psychosocial, and other agency staff to provide comprehensive support to youth.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized records of interactions, assessments, and progress of each young person according to agency guidelines.
- Reporting: Generate regular reports on the progress, challenges, and outcomes of youth programs to facilitate program evaluation and enhancement. Keep statistics and keep databases updated.
- Provide support in delivering information sessions about the service provided by the team.
- Provide outreach-programming services for the residential community.
- Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging trends and new legislation
- Be available to provide crisis intervention for emergencies, as needed.
- Participate in institutional professional development and training.
- Administration of the day-to-day formulation.
- Actively working in cooperation with government ministries, entities and nongovernment organizations.
- Ensuring health and safety of beneficiaries and staff.
- Carrying out any other duties and responsibilities as may be required from time to time by the Senior Psychologist and/or the Agency.
The minimum requirements are:
- Covering letter and detailed CV
- Certificates
- Valid Police Conduct
- Two/ three references
- Must be fluent in English language.
Applicants must be in possession of a BA in Youth and Community Studies or a master’s degree in
Youth and Community Studies.
Applicants holding such qualifications from a foreign University must present an MQRIC
equivalence. Applicants holding relevant experience over and above these qualifications will be
given preference.
